Hey everyone! A few weeks ago I discovered a very useful app to have in NYC and have been using it a few times. It’s called Uber App and it connects you directly with drivers that will pick you up, take you to your destinations and the payment will be automatically done online, you don’t even need to worry about the tips, because they are also included.

How does it work?

It is very simple. You need to sign up for the service, and introduce your payment method. That was fairly simple, since you can just take a picture of your card and it scans it for you. Next, you should select what type of transport you need.

The options are:

Taxi: this will connect you with a regular taxi. However, the automatic payment for this type is limited. If you see available cabs around, you’re better off rising your hand to stop one and go.

uberX: that’s the low cost uber. It will be a mid range car, but still with the same service and automated payment. I’ve used it a couple times and it was pretty ok in terms of cost. This is ideal when you’re in a spot where you can’t see any cabs around.

Black Car: I used this one the first time, because I had a $25 coupon to use on these. The service is excellent. It is more pricey, but it picked me and my friends up in Brooklyn, brought us to three different places around Manhattan and it was $42 in total, which is good if you’re sharing it!

SUV: similar to the previous one, except that you obviously get an SUV to pick you up.

Next, you select your pickup location. This is extremely easy since you can use the map and just tap wherever you want the car to wait for you. If you want, you can also request an estimated fee by taping on the option on the screen and selecting your destination. The cars usually take a few minutes to arrive, and you get a message. You also get a picture of the driver and a description of the car, so it’s easy to identify who’s waiting for you.

When you get to your destination, you don’t even need to reach your wallet, it’s all done automatically through the system. After a few minutes, you get a receipt and it also asks you to rate your ride.

I think it is useful to rate, because then you get to see the ratings of other drivers. That will alert you if some are choosing bad routes, or being late. From my short experience, all drivers have been fenomenal and I have to say from what I’ve seen that they do treat you MUCH better than yellow cab drivers in general.
