Hey everyone! Yes, this is a post about Walmart. It was a true cultural experience and I have to share it! We don’t have Walmart in Spain, so I never went to one. There are no Walmart stores close to New York City, so the only place I heard about it was the media and people talking about it. I have heard pretty bad things about the company, as well as great things like low prices and the huuuuuuge variety they have in the stores. In my last trip to the Adirondacks, I stopped at one and I could not believe how big that place was and all the things they have. It was like getting to know the other side of the American culture that I can’t see from New York.
For those who don’t know what I’m talking about, Walmart is the largest retail multinational. It is huge in America, with stores everywhere selling everything from butter to laptops.
First of all, what caught my attention the most was the space. We do have big super markets in Spain, but I have never seen anything like this. They have literally everything! After the size of the store, the biggest shock was to find out these shopping trolleys and many people who I wouldn’t think need to use them, using them:
Also, I have to add I went right before Black Friday, and they were preparing everything for the event… It really looked like they were preparing for war! I knew this is a big thing because I’ve read many funny and bizarre articles of things happening at Walmart on Black Friday.
I blame websites like this (peopleofwalmart.tumblr.com) for my expectations! But I have to say that what I saw, is not that far from what you can see at People of Walmart.
All in all this was a fun experience and I have to say I was SHOCKED with the prices compared to what we pay in the grocery stores of Manhattan… Thanks for reading and see you soon!
