My name is Steven Figueiredo, Director of Student Accounts at Woodland Park and Paramus. On April 5th, I had the honor of participating in the Cystic Fibrosis Sports Challenge that was held at Metlife Stadium.
A team of 10 people mixed of Berkeley Employees and friends competed against 20+teams from various companies including NBC, NBC sports and Kohls. The various events included team jump rope, tug of war, golf putting, a relay race and others.
Berkeley finished 6th overall and I had a fantastic time. Money was raised for this event to help support research for Cystic Fibrosis, an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system in about 30,000 children and adults each year.
In the 1950’s children diagnosed with this disease barely lived to experience elementary school. Today people with the disease expect to live well into their 30’s, 40’s and beyond.
Being the father of a 5 year old myself, I can not imagine the hardships families with Cystic Fibrosis go through on a daily basis. I’m glad I participated in this event for a great cause with great people.
