Joshua Williams, Chair, Fashion Merchandising and Management

Autumn has always been my favorite season. I appreciate the beautiful colors in nature and the engergizing chill in the air. It’s also a chance to start layering with sweaters, jackets, scarves and coats. It’s the season for accessorizing! Autumn also marks the beginning of the new school year. We welcomed new freshmen to Berkeley College as well as returning students, many of whom took the summer off. Quite a few of our new students come from far away including the Republic of Georgia, Korea, Norway and Brazil. Their fresh perspectives and excitement to be studying fashion in New York and New Jersey is palpable. It reminds me that one of the best parts of a college education is the friends you make and the network you develop that will support you later on in life and in your career. I hope that students will take advantage of getting involved in their respective fashion clubs and participating in fashion-related events outside the classroom. In addition, students who are interested in honing their styling and writing skills, should get involved with our student-led lifestyle magazine, Berkeley Bold. There are so many ways to make your experience at Berkeley College memorable. We hope you’ll share them with us at #bizwithstyle!

Berkeley Bold editor-in-chief, Josephine Elliott, interviewed London-based fashion guru Samata Angel about her design career, book and her work with “Green Dress, Red Carpet.” Her article will be in the next issue!

Fashion Club on-boarding events are being held in New York and New Jersey. Contact Professor Mark Friedberg for more information on how you can get involved: mfr@berkeleycollege.edu
