I’ve been a student at Berkeley College for the last two years. While skating through Berkeley’s Marketing and Communications Bachelor’s of Science program, I’ve completed courses touching on a wide variety of subject matters, most of them I found interesting. I’ve also been racing skateboards for the last 3 years, and progressing through the sport of downhill skateboarding. In that 3 year time period I’ve skated a wide variety of courses from all around the world.
Like my classes, there were plenty of skate courses I found interesting and challenging. In both the classroom and on the race track, the most interesting courses are the most memorable.
My favorite course that I have had the pleasure of taking at Berkeley so far is the Brand Management class. Like the name specifies, the class is all about managing brands. It also touches upon how to build a brand. In the course, I learned about being consistent with brand positioning, and knowing who the customers are and what they want. I also learn about brand extensions, which was particularly interesting when I found out that a lot of my favorite brands are owned by larger corporations such as Nestle or Kraft. What really made the course enjoyable in particular was that my professor tied the course into how we can build our own personal brands.
The Kozakov Challenge is my favorite racing event on the world circuit by far. The course at the event sits in the country side of the Czech Republic, in a small town called Kozakov. The track features everything, from fast and steep straight aways, to large and technical sweeping turns. The course accommodates any riding style, which makes it a very interesting course to race. Last year was my first time at the event and I have to say it is the best and most organized race I’ve ever been to. The Kozakov Challenge also attracts many riders and spectators because of the parties happening during and after the event. By personal opinion, I feel that is the best feature of the Kozakov Challenge and the course!
