On September 6th, I was asked to show and talk to Power 105.1 FM radio personality, Honey German about Berkeley College! It was intimidating to get to know a celebrity, but Honey was really humble and so down to earth. I talked to her about my journey to Berkeley, and my involvement as a student ambassador, as well as my position in the Student Government. Getting to know her journey was very uplifting for me! Since I am so close to graduating, it can become hard to stay motivated. Hearing about where she currently is in her career and the fact that she wants to build her brand, inspired me to want to work harder so that I can make an impact on society. Having Honey on campus for Club day also inspired our students to get more involved within our school community.
When she heard about my life goals she encouraged me to keep in contact, and if I ever needed advice to reach out. Honey was also really open to questions that the students had and she really loved some of the clubs that we offer here at the NYC campus. A major reason why she was interested in our Berkeley Cares Club was because we do community service, and Honey is a very big advocate for autism. We got more into detail, where she told me that her nephew is autistic and she sees the reality of what it is like to deal with a disability from both the parents and her nephew’s point of view. She feels that once awareness is out there, we as a community will have more of an understanding.
Spending time with Honey and getting to hear about the industry from her point of view was an eye-opening experience. I realized that every opportunity that has been given to me through Berkeley College has opened another door for me. This opportunity in particular is special because it gave me the chance to write my first blog for the the college!
