Let’s take it back to 2006, when P!NK and Gwen Stefani were being bought from the iTunes Store and downloaded on to every teenage girls’ IPod Touch. Also around that time, the show most teenage girls were watching was “The Hills” on MTV. They all wanted to be like Lauren Conrad and Whitney Post when they grew up. I was one of those teenage girls. I dreamed of having a career in the fashion industry like the stars of “The Hills”. Fast forward to 2017, where I am now on my way to living that dream! I am currently interning at Gottex Swimwear in New York City, where I work closely with the Executive Assistant and Sales Assistant.
On Tuesdays and Thursdays I head off to the city, where you can usually find me hanging swimsuit samples or organizing the showrooms. I also help the Executive Assistant to adjust account pricing, create gifting lists for social media influencers, and assist with press day preparations. More recently, I’ve have had the opportunity to work with another swimsuit company that is in our office called Kisuii, which was established by the daughter of the owner of Gottex. We send different Public Relations companies samples of our swimsuits to show their celebrity clients what new items we have. These clients include Beyoncé, Rihanna, Selena Gomez, and some of the Victoria’s Secret Angels. The way we determine who swimsuits are sent to is either by how many followers on social media they have, how often they vacation to warm places, and if they post pictures of themselves in swimsuits.
I am very excited to help out with market week in November as well! Everyday I am learning something new and I absolutely love it. I feel like I have learned so much, and I am only half way through the semester. However, that is all I will tell you about my internship for now. I can’t wait to show you all of the other exciting things I do at Gottex New York on October 24th, when I take over the Berkeley College Twitter account. Be sure to check out of my tweets about the life of a stylish intern!
